Shoe Finder

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 June 2026

Rocksy Adventures ("we", "us", "our") runs the Climbing Shoe Finder at rocksyadventures.com. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what choices you have. We're a small business, not a data broker, so the honest version of this policy is also the short one.

Who we are

Rocksy Adventures is the data controller for the personal data described below. If you have questions, use the Feedback button on the site to get in touch — it goes to an actual person, not a ticketing system.

What we collect

DataWhenWhy
Feedback messageIf you submit the feedback formTo improve the quiz and our shoe recommendations
Shoe name (optional)If your feedback is about a specific shoeSo we know which recommendation you're talking about
Quiz answers (experience, style, foot width, budget, etc.)While using the quizTo generate your shoe recommendations — processed in your browser, not stored by us
Usage data (pages viewed, button clicks, approximate location/device)Automatically, via Google Analytics, only if you accept cookiesTo understand how the tool is used and improve it
"Try it on here" clicksWhen you click a gym/location buttonTo see which shops/gyms people want to try shoes on at
Outbound link clicks ("Buy now")When you click through to a retailerTo understand which shoes are popular and measure referral activity

Notably absent from this table: your name. We didn't ask, and the feedback form no longer has anywhere to put it even if you wanted to give it.

Quiz answers aren't stored

Your answers to the shoe-finder questions stay in your browser long enough to generate results, then they're gone. We don't save them on our servers, mostly because we have nowhere to put them and no particular reason to want to.

Feedback form

If you use the Feedback button, your message (and, if relevant, the shoe you're talking about) is sent via Formspree, a third-party form processing service, to our inbox. Formspree processes this data on our behalf as a data processor. We don't sell or share it with anyone else — there's no third market for "the Katanas run narrow" anyway. We periodically delete old feedback submissions we no longer need.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the quiz — for example, which questions cause drop-off, and which "Buy now" or "Try it on here" buttons get clicked. This involves cookies or similar identifiers set by Google, and only loads after you accept the cookie banner. Analytics data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally by us.

Outbound retailer links

"Buy now" buttons take you to third-party retailers (such as Banana Fingers, La Sportiva, Scarpa, Adidas/Five Ten, or Evolv). These links may include tracking parameters (UTM tags, and in future, affiliate identifiers) so we can see which products are popular and, where applicable, earn a commission. Once you leave our site, the retailer's own privacy policy applies — we have no control over their data practices, and frankly no jurisdiction either.

Cookies

This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics, only once you've accepted them, to recognise repeat visits and measure usage. We don't currently use cookies for advertising or to identify you personally — we're trying to sell you climbing shoes, not follow you around the internet.

Legal basis for processing

Where UK/EU GDPR applies, we rely on:

How long we keep data

Feedback submissions are kept only as long as useful for improving the site, and are deleted periodically. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

Your rights

If UK/EU data protection law applies to you, you have the right to ask us to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you (such as a feedback submission), and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, use the Feedback button to contact us with enough detail — roughly when you wrote in and what you said — for us to find your entry. Since we don't collect names, that's genuinely the best identifier either of us has.

Third parties we use

Changes to this policy

We may update this page as the site evolves — for example, when we add affiliate tracking. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do, rather than quietly changing what this page says and hoping nobody notices.
