About Rocksy

My name isn't actually Rocksy. I think it's a cute name for a climbing website, and if this site turns out to be terrible, I'd quite like you not to know who I am.

I've been climbing since I was 9 years old and have gone through at least 20 pairs of climbing shoes. This site exists because I got fed up answering the same question on Reddit and in person and thought there had to be a better way.

How the Shoe Finder works

I personally reviewed a shedload of shoes and websites and made a mega dataset covering downturn, asymmetry, width, heel shape, stiffness, sizing and price for hundreds of shoes. I came up with the questions, and how each answer affects a shoe's score. You answer the quiz, every shoe gets scored against your answers, and the closest matches come up first. See an example set of results.

And yes, AI wrote the code for the website. I started writing it myself years ago, but my coding skills are limited and I'd kind of given up. AI tools unblocked me. The data, the questions, the scoring and the words are mine.

The money bit

Some links on this site may earn me a small commission if you buy online. The price you pay is exactly the same; the retailer just gives me a little as a thanks for sending them a customer.

I promise that commission rates will never affect which shoes come up first. The results are sorted purely by how well a shoe matches your answers.

I'll always encourage you to go to a physical shop and try shoes on first, even though I can't earn commission that way. It's just the right advice.

I'm not asking for any personal data, so you can be sure I'm not selling it. The privacy policy has the details.

Retailers and brands: I'd love to hear from you, whether it's about partnering or about data I've got wrong. Here's what climbers see when the quiz recommends your shoes.
